About This Project
To install a new bulkhead in this subdivision, the old one must be completely removed. This old bulkhead consisted of 6″ x 12″ timbers that were 24′ long!
Then 3″ x 12″ timbers were added along the shoreline stacked upon one another and this was the bulkhead for this shoreline, even though it required extensive maintenance to keep it from leaking due to its poor design, it lasted for several decades.
The removal of this terribly heavy and old creosote timber structure caused many problems for us… not the least of which that most of it easily desintegrated upon contact due to rot, but mainly what we were able to pull out – where to put it all. So massive piles of old creosote timbers were lying everywhere for a while.
Eventually sections of it were removed to the street where it was picked up in stages over the following week.
At least now, the new bulkhead is of a much better design and will last at least 20 years.
